Overview

The gentlest and most scenic of the classic approaches. Sirimon climbs the drier western flank through montane forest and open moorland to Shipton's Camp, then summits Point Lenana at dawn before descending the same route.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1
    Nairobi → Sirimon Gate → Old Moses Camp
    Drive from Nairobi to the Sirimon gate, trek through montane forest to Old Moses Camp at 3,300m. 3–4 hours walking.
  2. Day 2
    Old Moses → Shipton's Camp
    Cross the moorland zone past giant lobelia to Shipton's Camp at 4,200m beneath the peaks. 6–7 hours walking.
  3. Day 3
    Summit Point Lenana → descend to Old Moses
    Pre-dawn start to summit Point Lenana (4,985m) for sunrise, then descend back to Old Moses Camp. 8–10 hours walking.
  4. Day 4
    Old Moses → Sirimon Gate → Nairobi
    Final descent through forest to the gate and transfer back to Nairobi. 2–3 hours walking.
